“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”- Exodus 20:3 (KJV)
Introduction:
Greetings Christlike Ministries NWA Family!
This is the perfect message to write as I’m sitting listening to an old favorite by Carmen. I believe it’s off his “Radically Saved” album…the song is simply titled “Great God”, and as I was looking through the Scriptures of the Day this one caught my eye, and before you know it I’m here getting ready to pen another message.
This is a message I’m bringing over from Evernote, and was written during my recovery from my hernia surgery earlier this year. I feel like it’s a relevant and right now message.
Praise & Worship:
Since I brought it up I may as well include the song, and have it be the background track to this message. So…here is “Great God” by Carmen.
Great God:
I don’t know how many of you know who Carmen is, but he’s long been one of the people who I’ve looked up to as far as people in mainstream ministry that I admire. The back story of who he was before Jesus, and where he is now is just another one of the many stories that show what the power of God can do in a yielded vessel.
How many of you know that every single one of us that are whosoever’s that have called upon the name of the Lord to be saved are examples of the power of God?
Every person that confesses Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior comes to understand that there is only one God that loved them enough to give His life to have a personal, intimate relationship with them. Every person who has Jesus Christ living on the inside of them has the same power that raised Christ from the dead living on the inside of them.
I think some times, that we forget that God isn’t up there somewhere in the clouds…He is living on the inside of each and every one of us. The power of God is living on the inside of each and every one of us today. Meditate upon that for a while.
“Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” – God
I have personally had some of the most amazing encounters with God, and I don’t know about anyone else…I can only speak for myself…but there isn’t anyone that can tell me that any other god allows their followers to have the kind of intimate, personal relationship that my God allows.
I have never heard anyone say that Buddha put his hand on their shoulder as they were sobbing uncontrollably to let them know he was there…but I can say that about Jesus.
I have never heard anyone say they were walking with Muhammad down by the lake front one night just chatting away with him like buddies…but I can say that about Jesus.
I have never heard anyone say that they are able to have the personal, intimate relationship that I have with Jesus…and the reason for that is very simple.
There is no other god like our God. Amen!?!
Let’s Pray:
Almighty God, You are worthy of all glory and honor. We realize that Your demands that we should be holy, that we should obey Your Word, and that we should seek Your will are all based on Your desire to love and bless us. We want to serve You with undivided hearts. We want our obedience to be offered as joyously and graciously to You as Your blessings have been shared with us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
In Closing:
The order of obedience is always the same: God reveals Himself, God blesses us, and then God asks us to respond. In other words, God blesses us first, and then asks us to obey.
God is all-powerful and supreme. He could demand our obedience just because of who He is, but He doesn’t. He has chosen to reveal Himself through Scripture, through nature, and through His acts of salvation.
He wants us to know Him and respond to Him. Our obedience may be difficult. Our call to obey may sometimes be hard for us to understand.
However, we know it comes from a Father who has paid an enormous price to redeem us and who has already proven Himself faithful.
Thank you for joining me today. I appreciate your love, prayers, and support.
Have a blessed day & God Bless!
Blessings & Grace;
Pastor B
