Good Afternoon Everyone,
One of the things I enjoy about taking time off is having the opportunity to spend more of my time at the Master’s feet. It’s been a nice weekend, and I’ve started putting things in place that I believe will really help me to grow as a pastor, husband, father, and overall as a better ambassador for Christ.
Ponder this point with me for a moment, however…
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good…” – Genesis 1:31 (KJV)
This is the moment before Adam and Eve ate of the only tree God told them not to eat from, and sin entered the world through their disobedience. This is the moment before all of these destructive storms, and all things were good.
God saw everything that He made…and it was very good.
There was a time in the world that everything on earth was exactly what it was like in Heaven. There wasn’t any sickness or disease in the world yet, and there wasn’t any evil in the world yet either. I mean, Satan was still here, but this was before he approached Eve in the Garden…and gave her the temptation that ultimately cost Lucifer his fall to the earth.
Everything for a time was good. It was perfect. It was without sin, it was without sickness, and it was without the consequences of sin. It literally was Heaven on earth.
It actually proves what James wrote about how good and perfect gifts only come from God. Before Adam sinned…everything here was very good…it was better than very good…it was perfect. This is what is in the future of all who have called upon the name of the Lord to be saved.
One day, there will be a new Heaven and a new Earth. One day, there will once again be a good and perfect world with no sin, no sickness, and no consequences of sin. One day Satan will be permanently defeated, and only those who have been saved will be allowed to be a part of the world that God is going to create for all of us that have called Him Lord.
THIS is the hope that we who have called upon Jesus have. THIS is what Jesus meant as He talked about going to prepare a place for us, but there’s more to it as Paul writes how there isn’t a mind that has been able to conceive or imagine all that is awaiting those of us who have made Jesus our Lord and Savior.
You know, there isn’t much preaching about Heaven anymore. It’s all about living our best lives here, and I certainly agree that we need to make the most of our lives here. However, we’re supposed to comfort each other and encourage one another with the very thing I just wrote…that one day we are going to be with God in a place much like was planned in the Garden.
We need to talk more about what is awaiting those whose God is the Lord. We need to talk about it because this is what ought to be our hope, and what is supposed to encourage us to continue to run our races and fight the good fight of faith.
No matter what you believe about the rapture or second coming of Christ…the point is soon and very soon life in this world will come to an end…and we will spend eternity in one of two places. There are people who will be separated from God forever, and there will be people who will be with God forever…and the only way to be able to be with Him is to call upon the name of the Lord and be saved.
If you’ve never done that…then what happens next is the most important moment of your life. It’s more important than what you chose to do for a career, it’s more important than choosing who to marry, it’s more important than who to vote for, and it’s the only decision that has an eternal result…that decision is what you are going to do about Jesus.
If you accept Him…you will be with Him in Heaven.
If you reject Him…you will be with the devil in Hell.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe in hell. It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe that a loving God really would send people to hell. It only matters that the Bible clearly states that those who reject Jesus will spend eternity in hell.
I don’t want you to go there. I don’t want that to happen to you. I want you to be in Heaven with me, but the only way for you to be there is by taking a moment to say this simple prayer…and really mean it with all of your heart, all of your soul, all of your might, and all of your strength.
Let’s all pray this together:
“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
I hope y’all took the time to say this whether your saved or not. It’s always good to take a moment to solidify our commitment to Jesus, and for those who have never made Jesus Lord…if you just said that prayer and meant it…then you have just made the most important decision of your life (and eternal life).
