Greetings CLMNWA Family,

It’s in the most unusual places some times the Lord speaks, and starts to give me a message. Today, we were guests at a Lutheran church to attend a baby baptism, and this verse was in their introit. The simple words that jumped in my heart were those that are also the title of this message: You Are My God.

“Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you – you are my God.” –Psalms‬ ‭86:2‬ ‭(ESV‬‬)

You know, with all the things going on in the world today I don’t know about you, but there’s a tugging on my heart to just say to declare just like the Psalmist did: “God You are my God.”.  There’s so many things that clamoring for our attention today, and I’m just as guilty some times of letting other things take priority or preference in my life over the Lord.  I know, I’m a pastor, and I still find times where I don’t put God in His rightful place.  That’s why “Give God First Place” is of such importance, that’s why there’s such an emphasis placed upon that “One Needful Thing”, and that’s why the ultimate goal of those things is to find true “Intimacy With The Father”.

Oh God, You are my God.

The actual verse for this message is Psalm 86:2, but the Psalm 63:1 (pictured) is just as much the cry of my heart today, but as you well know the cares of the world get in the way of that desperation and some times we don’t even realize that we’ve given other things priority over the Lord. I did that most often during my time as a stay at home dad when I got the tug on me that my daughter needed my attention. Some times she won, and some times the Lord won…and if I’m being sincere with y’all I wish now that she’s going to be starting school full-time I’d have let her win a few more times. Somehow, I think God would’ve understood because now I realize that starting Tuesday I won’t have those sweet interruptions anymore unless she’s home sick.

You know what, though. Watching my daughter come to me in those moments has taught me something about our desperation for God. Some times, there was a half-hearted pull on me to get me to pay attention to her, and there were times when I could tell there was a difference in her approach to me that she really just needed her daddy’s attention.  Don’t you know we do the same thing to our Heavenly Father?  Some times, we have this half-hearted desire to encounter Him, and then there are times we really have a longing to be in His presence. In both instances I will certainly give my daughter the attention she’s seeking, but in the times when she really comes and seeks me out it blesses me when she’s seeking me with her whole little heart…and so it is with our Father. He will always draw near to us when we desire to draw near to Him, but when we come seeking Him with our whole heart…that’s what blesses Him.

You know…that’s why it’s good to take a moment some times to just declare to Him “Lord, I know there are times when I put things in Your place, and I’m sorry. I just want to take a moment to let You know that there’s no one or no thing that compares to You. You, O God, are my God.”

Let’s all just take a moment to declare today with the Psalmist: “Oh God, You Are My God!”
